Art, music, food, fun … it’s time to crawl y’all!  Is art the new steel? If you travel to Hamilton the second weekend of September, it might seem so, when the city’s downtown erupts with creativity. Supercrawl organizers pull out all the stops to host a one-of-a-kind three-day music and art festival along James Street North.

Supercrawl is Hamilton’s premier multi-arts festival, fusing new and independent music with art installations, fashion, performance, literature, theatre, and artisanal craft. Supercrawl’s diverse multi-disciplinary program of sound, performance, visual and media arts is staged along a pedestrian-only creative corridor in the heart of downtown.

A team of Hamilton artists and community builders founded Supercrawl in 2009 out of a desire to showcase the city’s cultural vibrancy and eclectic arts landscape. The event’s principals had based their independent business in the dynamic James North neighbourhood since 1997, and had long been active and prominent partners in the city’s creative community.

Supercrawl is a free annual outdoor art and music festival held in downtown Hamilton, Ontario, showcasing a diverse and dynamic lineup of music, art, fashion, performance, talks, crafts, food and fun. In 2025, Supercrawl covered 22 city blocks and attracted more than 285,000 visitors over the course of the weekend. Organizers look forward to building upon that foundation at this fall’s festival — Supercrawl’s 17th anniversary — taking place September 11-13, 2026 on James Street North.

Here’s just a taste of what you can expect to experience at this one-of-a-kind showcase of Hamilton’s vibrant arts scene:

Musical Mashup

Supercrawl’s free music program gets bigger and better each year, and they don’t get much more varied than this. Its genre-bending musical lineup might include breakout indie pop stars, children’s singers, Canadian rockers, eclectic electronic artists, soul and R&B, home-grown talent, global music voyagers, and high-energy punk rockers, not to mention country-pop, jazz, classical, IDM, electro pop, Francophone, garage rock, indie rock, shoegaze, choral music, DJs… you get the picture.

Eye-popping Art

Supercrawl’s showcase of contemporary art projects by local, national and international talents always draws a crowd. Past features have included flame-throwing skee-ball, architectural projection art, murals, provocative neon works, monumental sculptural installations, pyrotechnic performances and much more.

Inspired Minds

Supercrawl’s Talks programming is as eclectic and entertaining as every other aspect of the festival. Hear from artists, authors and creative insiders, take in short films, listen to live storytelling sessions, and more. Be sure to check out this year’s lineup before you go.

Creative Kids

Some festivals are geared to adults, but Supercrawl’s spirit of creative play means that all ages will find lots to see and do, whether in or out of the Family Zone. Kids will love the hands-on arts and craft activities, dancers and musicians, street performances and kid-friendly food.
Music, art and fun are just the beginning of this supersized street party. There will also be fashion events, independent street vendors, awesome after-parties and of course a fleet of food trucks serving up treats on the street.
