The Westdale Theatre, originally opened in 1935 as Hamilton’s first sound motion picture venue, underwent significant restoration and modernization, reopening on February 14th, 2019, as a vibrant cultural hub in Westdale. Operated by the Westdale Cinema Group, a charitable corporation, it showcases a diverse range of independent, repertory, and Canadian films alongside live performances and exhibitions.
This fully licensed and accessible space features closed captioning and described video technologies. The theatre’s mission is to serve as a community-based cinematic, cultural, and economic center, fostering inclusivity through art, while also providing a platform for local artists and community events. Through its programming, The Westdale aims to celebrate diversity and encourage collaboration among different cultural groups, offering its facilities to non-profit organizations and community groups at affordable rates.
