A Day of Play: Indigenous Traditional Games

About the ‘A Day of Play’ Package: Tour Chiefswood National Historic Site which is the childhood home of E. Pauline Johnson. Learn about the dual heritage represented at the Johnson family homestead and the famous poetess Pauline.

Next the group will learn about our traditional Haudenosaunee game of lacrosse. Discover the origins of lacrosse and its importance of the game. There will be a quick lacrosse demonstration and then the group will have a chance to have a scrimmage.

After that hard work it is time for a lunch break! Enjoy your own lunch by the river or visit one of the local restaurants. The afternoon will be filled with more outdoor activities as the group learns basic archery techniques. Targets will be set up and visitors will have a chance to shoot at the targets to test their skills. Safety lessons and equipment will be provided.

The day will end with a leisurely walk through our nature trail. A guide will lead you through the trail to discuss the Carolinian Forest and the traditional plants that make up the trail.
