Whether you’re a nature newbie, lacking in equipment, or just ready to try a new outdoor experience for the first time, you don’t have to go it alone in Hamilton Halton Brant. Our guided experiences and experienced outfitters make it easier than ever to plan your next outdoor or nature adventure.

  • Camping 101

Need some camping confidence? Sign up for Bronte Creek Provincial Park‘s Learn to Camp program, where you’ll join Ontario Parks leaders and fellow new campers on an overnight camping trip to learn how to set-up camp, build a campfire and much more.

  • Just Add Water (falls)

Take a Bruce Trail Waterfall Walk with Grand Experiences Canoe & Kayak Outfitters and an experienced guide will introduce you to the natural beauty of the Niagara Escarpment. You’ll see a total of 19 stunning waterfalls on the two-day hike and 28 waterfalls on the five-day hike, and off the trails, you’ll enjoy outstanding local cuisine and overnight accommodations.

  • Get Up, Stand Up

Find out why stand up paddleboarding (SUP) is taking the world by storm. Get out and enjoy the water this summer with lessons at Burlington Beach with Burlington Beach Rentals or a two-hour introduction to the sport at WhaSUP in Troy. Grand River Rafting in Paris has mapped out a great route on the Grand River and will provide a lesson before you set out.

  • Solid as a Rock

Whether you’re looking to spelunk through caves, rappel down limestone cliffs, or ice climb on a frozen waterfall, One Axe Pursuits offers programs for complete beginners as well as intermediate climbers atop the Niagara Escarpment in Milton. The certified instructors at Zen Climb conduct outdoor rock climbing courses for beginners, intermediate and advanced climbers at Rattlesnake Point.

    Fly Me to the Grand

Enjoy a Grand River fly-fishing experience with Fly Water Guiding, a local outfitter in Paris. Fly Water Guiding offers introductory fly-fishing and casting courses for beginners to master the techniques, set-up and safety of the sport while fishing for steelhead, rainbow trout and brown trout.

  • Paddling for Beginners

The Grand River’s gentle currents make it a great choice for first-time paddlers. Area outfitters such as Grand ExperiencesGrand River Rafting and Heritage River Canoe and Kayak Co. make it so easy to gear up and go. Royal Botanical Gardens in Burlington offers programs for those looking to give paddling a try — Paddle in Paradise guided tours give participants a view of wetland plants and wildlife in Cootes Paradise and the three-hour Scenic Canoe Tour is a quintessential Great Lakes Canadian paddling experience.

  • Offshore Pursuits

Trophy Chinook salmon and trout can be found a few miles offshore from Bronte Harbour in Oakville, and there’s no better way to get hooked on fishing than aboard a professionally crewed, well appointed and fully equipped sporting yacht. Hearn Fishing Charters offers Lake Ontario offshore pursuits on the Veterans Dream.

  • Animal Encounter

Nature lovers will love getting up close and personal with the inhabitants at African Lion Safari in Hamilton. Get behind-the-scenes access with the Wake Up The Wild experience, an unforgettable, guided open-air truck tour where you’ll watch lions devour their breakfast and hand-feed a giraffe.

  • Snowshoe First Steps

Cramp on at Crawford Lake every Saturday in winter. The family-friendly Sunset Snowshoe Hike includes a less strenuous hike, snowshoe games and fun nature activities (tracking, anyone?). The Moonlight Snowshoe Hike for adults offers insight into the history of snowshoeing, instruction on snowshoe techniques and a more strenuous guided hike on the trails. Both experiences end with hot chocolate and a marshmallow roast around the campfire.

  • Take a Hike

Enjoy a guided half-day hike through Royal Botanical Gardens’ diverse trails and landscapes. The moderate hike combines physical activity with nature and learning. In Paris, Grand River Outdoor Wilderness Education offers interpretive and interactive-style nature hikes where participants learn about plants, trees and bird identification while hiking the Carolinian Forest of the Grand River Valley.
