Websters and Tew’s Falls at Spencer Gorge Conservation Area

Spencer Gorge Conservation Area showcases two of Hamilton’s most spectacular waterfalls. Webster Falls, a magnificent 22-metre tiered cascade, stands as one of the region’s most iconic natural features, while nearby Tew Falls towers at 41 metres, Hamilton’s tallest waterfall and a beauty in its own right. The conservation area’s trails connect both falls through the historic Spencer Gorge, where you’ll discover remnants of Upper Canada’s early industrial heritage alongside the beautifully restored cobblestone bridge crossing Spencer Creek.

    Hermitage Cascade

Hermitage Cascade serves as the perfect trailhead for exploring the Dundas Valley’s extensive hiking network, where Sulphur Creek tumbles 4 metres over rocks beside the historic Hermitage Gatehouse. This easily accessible waterfall—just a two-minute walk from the parking lot—marks your entry point into 1,200 hectares of diverse hiking terrain through the Dundas Valley Conservation Area. Well-marked trails lead hikers through rolling Carolinian forest and open meadows, with options ranging from the popular 90-minute Main Loop Trail to the more ambitious 10.5-kilometre Headwaters Trail. The multi-use paths wind across streams and through varied landscapes, offering hikers encounters with both cyclists and equestrians along the hilly, forested routes.

    Smokey Hollow Falls

Smokey Hollow Falls features a scenic 11-kilometre hike showcasing this waterfall by many names, including the Great Falls, Grindstone Falls or Waterdown Falls, a terraced, ribbon waterfall that is 10 metres high. The route traces the rugged ravine carved by Grindstone Creek, where the heritage waterfall once powered local sawmills and now flows through beautifully rehabilitated parkland. You’ll follow sections of the Bruce Trail as it winds through the Niagara Escarpment, with a viewing platform offering intimate perspectives of the cascading water. The terrain includes stairs and potentially muddy conditions, making this a moderate challenge for hikers seeking both natural beauty and regional heritage.

    Tiffany Falls

Tiffany Falls offers an easy family-friendly hike through forested trails and over bridges that cross the stream below. This 21-metre cascade waterfall tumbles from a broad valley above the escarpment into a v-shaped ravine, creating a memorable experience for visitors surrounded by cliffs on either side. The straightforward 10 to 15-minute walk from Wilson Street takes you through a significant natural area where Eastern hemlock, sugar maple, red oak and American beech create a diverse canopy. For extended exploration, cross Wilson Street to reach the Sherman and Canterbury Falls on the Bruce Trail, or head into the nearby Dundas Valley for 1,200 hectares of trail in the Carolinian forest.

    Albion Falls

Albion Falls is one of the most picturesque waterfalls in the region and one of the city’s most popular. A leisurely 6-kilometre hike connects Albion Falls to Buttermilk Falls and Glendale Falls via the Bruce Trail and Mountain Brow Side Trail, or enjoy the easy 200-metre walk from the Mountain Brow Boulevard parking lot for quick access. This stepped jewel is almost as wide (18 metres) as it is tall (19 metres), making it an ideal waterfall for visitors of all abilities.
