The Copper Kettle Pub occupies a historic 1852 building that originally housed the Wheeler General Store, where three generations of the Wheeler family sold everything from dry goods and shoes to paper and stamps while serving as the local post office from 1852 to 1972. This remarkable building has witnessed over a century and a half of community life, transforming from Rufus McCrea’s proudly “dry” store that helped establish the neighboring Town Hall in 1871 and hosted Temperance Society meetings, to various enterprises including an antique shop, surf shop, and tea room throughout the decades.
In a delightful twist of irony, what was once a staunchly alcohol-free establishment evolved into the beloved Copper Kettle Pub, serving the community for over twenty years before undergoing a loving renovation in 2016 that restored it to its former glory as both a local community hot spot and a must-see destination for tourists and travelers seeking to experience a piece of living history.
