Only a few hours to spare? That’s more than enough time to experience the best of Burlington without rushing.

Burlington is an easy, stress-free escape that features waterfront views, walkable streets and standout local restaurants. This half-day itinerary is designed to be fully accessible by transit and foot, guiding you through must-see highlights with clear timing and directions so you can make the most of every hour.

Getting to Burlington

Skip the traffic, sit back, relax and enjoy the FREE WiFi on GO Transit to Burlington.  And there are lots of ways to save on your travel — from the One Day Weekend pass to Weekday Group Passes, and kids 12 and under always ride for FREE. Plan your trip to Burlington with GO Transit here.

Start your trip on the GO Transit Lakeshore West Line. From Toronto, hop on a westbound train and get off at Burlington GO.

From Burlington GO, take Burlington Transit (Route 2 or 3) toward downtown and get off near Brant Street Terminal. From there everything in this itinerary is within a short walking distance.

If you are arriving from Pearson Airport, you can travel car-free, comfortably and conveniently to Burlington using UP Express from Pearson Airport to Union Station and then taking GO Transit directly to Burlington.

Your Half-day Game Plan (4-5 Hours Total)

1. Explore the Waterfront (45-60 minutes)

Start your visit at Spencer Smith Park, the heart of Burlington’s Waterfront.

Walk along the lakefront trail, take in the views of Lake Ontario, and enjoy a slower pace compared to the city. It’s the perfect way to reset between matches and events.

2. Coffee Stop in Village Square (30-45 minutes)

From the park, it’s about a 5-minute walk to Village Square, a tucked-away European style courtyard that feels like a hidden gem.

Grab a coffee and treat at a local favorite such as Tamp Coffee Co., or Lola Chocolate Bar & Sweet House.

It’s a relaxed, charming stop that adds a unique local feel to your visit.

3. Lunch on a Downtown Patio (60-75 minutes)

Within a 5-minute walk of village square, you will find some of Burlington’s locally loved downtown patios.

Settle in at:

This is your moment to slow down, refuel, and enjoy the local food scene.

4. Shop & Stroll Along Brant Street (45-60 minutes)

After lunch, explore downtown Burlington’s walkable core along Brant Street.

Browse local boutiques like:

5. Optional Add-On: Royal Botanical Gardens (60-90 minutes)

If you have extra time, consider heading to the Royal Botanical Gardens, one of the region’s most iconic and beautiful attractions.

Starting June 20, catch the Canadian premiere of ANCHORBALL: A Curious Art Journey, an all-new outdoor exhibit featuring 18 monumental sculptures (up to 12 feet tall) plus augmented reality surprises. This experience is included with regular Garden Admission or an RBG Membership.

From downtown, take Burlington Transit (Route 1 Plains Road) toward the gardens. Save 15% off General Adult Admission when you show your PRESTO card.

Getting Back to GO Transit

When you’re ready to head back, walk to the Brant Street Terminal and take Burlington Transit (Route 2 or 3) back to Burlington GO Station.

If you’re visiting Royal Botanical Gardens and heading straight back to Toronto, Aldershot GO Station is the station closest to the gardens. You can take Burlington Transit Route 1 from Hendrie Park at Royal Botanical Gardens Centre toward Aldershot GO Station for an easy connection to GO Transit.

From there, hop back on the GO Transit Lakeshore West Line toward Toronto.

Make the Most of Your Time

You don’t need a full day to enjoy Burlington. In just a few hours, you can experience waterfront views, local cafes, and great food, all without the stress of driving.

It’s an easy, refreshing break from the energy of the city, and proof that even a short window of time can turn into something memorable.
