This trip is a full day adventure-filled route running from the old Galt part of Cambridge down river to the Town of Paris. It consists of mainly calm water mixed with mild swifts to add a little excitement. The leisurely paddling through scenic woodland makes this a great trip for all paddlers.
Due to the length of this run we don’t suggest it for beginners. This route is 22km long, and approximately 5 hours in length, with a 150 foot portage at the end as you land in Paris.
If you are a novice paddler with no experience, consider taking our Guided Grand River Experience with our Paddle Canada certified guides.
There are many spots to stop on your trip along the riverbank or one of the small islands where you can have a picnic lunch and/or do some exploring.
Notable sights on this route include the Spottiswood Bluff and the deep Grand River Valley’s Carolinian Forest. There are swift water sections on the route with just one brief class 1 rapid on the route (class 1 is the scales lowest rating). Other sights include Spring Island and the majestic ‘Three Sisters’, haunting 120 year old stone bridge pillars that are remnants of the Early Railway Era, crucial to the formation of Canada. As your trip ends you paddle out of the Carolinian Forest into picturesque Paris on the Grand River.
As people step out of their boats in Paris, the first thing on their minds is, ‘When can we do it again” It is an experience you won’t forget!
At the end of the leisurely 5 hour paddle there is a 150 foot portage as you arrive in Paris. If you feel uncomfortable with this please inform our staff.
