A Peaceful Paddle through Brantford

  • Enter the river on your canoe, kayak or raft at the Ballantyne Dr. River Access Point, just past the intersection of Ballantyne Dr. and Spalding Dr., and enjoy a scenic paddle through Brantford surrounded by the rich Carolinian landscape.
  • As you pass under the historic Lorne Bridge, a large concrete arch bridge with massive piers, you will see the beautiful architecture of the Brantford Armoury. Be sure to explore this area off-river after your paddle to see the Brant War Memorial, Boer War Memorial and the Field Howitzer, all part of Brantford’s Public Art Collection.
  • Exit the river at the Cockshutt Bridge River Access Point located at 458 Erie Ave. where you will find access to portalets and picnic tables.
  • Nearby, you will find the Bell Homestead National Historic Site, one of Ontario’s oldest historic home museums. From 1870 to 1881, this was the Bell family’s first Canadian residence and the place where Alexander Graham Bell discovered the fundamental concept of the telephone in 1874. Tour the Bell family home with original furniture and artefacts and visit Canada’s first telephone office.
  • Visit Sociable Kitchen & Tavern where the focus is always on the enjoyment and the experience of the meal. Their breads and buns are baked daily in-house and don’t miss their extensive craft beer list.
  • Save room for dessert at Dairee Delite, a vintage, walk-up ice cream shop and an iconic Brantford landmark. Enjoy real ice cream, frozen yogurt or their delicious, vegan treats. Dairee Delite is famous for their signature “Delites” – Peanut Butter, Hot Fudge Brownie, Twist, Black Forest and Turtle, not to mention the endless combinations of sundae, milkshake and flurry flavours.
