The Canada 150 Mosaic Mural Project commemorates Canada’s 150th Anniversary by bringing together 150 communities and thousands of participants to create community murals that visually reflect the history and culture of Canada. Once complete, the community murals will be virtually connected to form one gigantic mural mosaic with a railway theme that connects the country from coast to coast.

Our mural is composed of 750 tiles, each measuring four inches square and painted by Oakville residents. The official unveiling of Oakville's 150 Anniversary community mural took place on February 16, 2016 at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC). Oakville’s community mural is now on exhibit at River Oaks Community Centre.

Eileen Collard (1912-2002) was a couturier, costume collector and instrumental in founding the costume collection at the Joseph Brant Museum. She was a pioneer of her day, becoming one of a few self-published authors and resident authorities on historical fashion. Eileen was passionate about her craft and between the years 1969 and 1983 wrote 12 books on Canadian fashion history. This exhibition will explore the Collard costume collection and the lady behind the designs.

Drawn from the Permanent Collection of Canadian Ceramics, this exhibition traces the history of ceramics in Ontario over the last forty years. Starting with the refined functional ware of Ruth Gowdy McKinley and her effect on the program at Sheridan College and elsewhere, this exhibition will look at the development of the more sculptural approach by younger artists such as Reid Flock and Mary Philpott.

Repeatedly in his work, Canadian artist Kim Adams has explored the patterns of a mobile society, creating works of art that are eccentric hybrids of the readymade. Blending humour, satire and seriousness, he builds “worlds” as a means of social critique. Adams’ installations exist comfortably in the space that divides life and art. His works have been presented in two very different social worlds: in a densely social environment such as a park or street and in a museum setting like the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Neither setting is privileged.A magnificent visual masterpiece, Bruegel-Bosch Bus consists of a 1960 Volkswagen that appears to pull a post-industrial universe displaying a cornucopia of fantastic and seductive worlds that play with our senses. It was produced over a 7-year span. This futuristic diorama is a permanent fixture in the AGH Sculpture Atrium overlooking the Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden, past Hamilton City Hall and the Niagara Escarpment. Reminiscent of a previous installation by Adams titled Earth Wagons that presented a micro-model North American society fixed on leisure and entertainment, the Breugel-Bosch Bus encapsulates the next whole world picture, a world in which reality and unreality, logic and fantasy, banality and sublimation of existence, form an inexplicable unity. This ‘bus’ is a Kubrickesque megalopolis made of icons symptomatic in present society and draws upon urban fantasies, phantasmagoric, post-apocalyptic landscapes, and a plethora of different times and cultures. Buildings from different epochs are aligned side by side and space becomes an imaginary territory where chaos prevails.

All aboard! RBG’s newest train experience takes you on a journey through four seasons of whimsical Canadian landscapes while telling the story of how railroads shaped our history. The Escarpment Train Exhibit illustrates three eras of locomotion history including the steam engines of the late 1800s, the streamliners of the 1930s and the powerful modern diesels of the 1960s up to present day.
