    The effects of the First World War were so far-reaching they impacted the lives of every Hamiltonian. Follow the course of Hamilton’s involvement from the initial ‘call to arms’ to the post-war period through treasures from the collections of The Hamilton Military Museum including letters, photos and personal items owned by Hamiltonians, and experience the war Through Their Eyes

    Struck by Likening: The Power & Discontents of Artworld Analogies

    19 August – 2 December 2017

    Guest Curator:  Mark A. Cheetham (Professor of Art History and Senior Fellow at Massey College, University of Toronto)

    This exhibition explores commonplace declarations such as “Tom Thomson is the Van Gogh of Canada” and Norval Morrisseau is “the Picasso of the North” and the many issues raised by such comparisons. Works of art in the exhibition are drawn from the historical, modern and contemporary collection of the McMaster Museum of Art, and loans from the Art Gallery of Hamilton, the Art Museum at the University of Toronto, Museum London and the Corkin Gallery, Toronto.
