Looking for a unique First Nations experience? Then register for the annual Two Row on the Grand Paddle in Southern Ontario. The “Two Row on the Grand” paddle is a symbolic renewal of the Two Row Wampum— the original peace-treaty between native and settler communities. This annual paddling trip allows participants, native and non-native, to build mutual respect and understanding of individual values and culture through friendship. Participants can paddle for one day or numerous days. In the evenings, there will be the opportunity to experience Iroquoian cultural teachings, powwow dancing, storytelling, environmental concerns, treaties and sharing circles. The event starts in Paris on July 20th, 2017 and ends at Port Maitland on Lake Erie July 27th. Participants are welcome to bring their own canoe/kayak... or rent a canoe/kayak. Registration is a must. For more information visit http://www.grandriverrafting.ca/two-row-grand-river-paddle

Take part in one of Canada's Indigenous events. The Grand River ‘Champion of Champions’ Powwow is an event that promotes rich arts heritage by showcasing our ‘pride’ in music, dance, arts and crafts. Many Native Americans from the United States now participate as well. The forum for this expression in the arts has been coined a “Powwow” and is always presented with the utmost dignity. The event takes place in the open-air, during the afternoon and on into the evening under lights. It has been held at Chiefswood Tent & Trailer Park, on the grounds of the former Estate of the Mohawk Poetess E. Pauline Johnson, at the Six Nations of the Grand River Community.

The Pow Wow is a way for First Nations people to share their unique customs and cultural identity through the heartbeat of the drum, song and way of life. The Traditional Pow Wow was (and still is) a way of life for many Ojibways. The Mississaugas of the New Credit First Nations are a group of Ojibway (Anishinabe) belonging to the Algonquian linguistic group. The three fires are symbolic of the Mississaugas traditional and political alliance with the other Ojibway, Odawa, and Potowatomi Nations.
