Canadian Military Heroes

Celebrate our country’s great military tradition during Canada’s 150th year. Even if you’re not a military buff, flying on a vintage Canadian aircraft, reenacting the Battle of Stoney Creek, or attending the Canada Day Military Tattoo at Dundurn Castle are not-to-be-missed experiences. You can also honour our veterans with this two-day trip exploring military-related sites and attractions or visit one of our heritage sites and attractions.

HMCS Haida, Hamilton
Touring Canada’s most decorated war ship will give you a first-hand appreciation for the challenges faced by the ship’s outrageous crew during those decisive and important sea battles.

A National Historic Site, this early 19th-century homestead was once home to the Gage family, who retreated to the cellar during the War of 1812 as the Battle of Stoney Creek raged outside.

Southern Ontario’s largest military museum houses collections from the War of 1812 to the present day and features artifacts from the army, navy, air force and restored vehicles.

Hamilton Military Museum, Hamilton

One of the world’s largest displays of operational aircraft, this distinctive delta-shaped building houses over 40 historic aircraft, including the only flying Avro Lancaster in North America.

Chiefswood National Historic Site, Ohsweken
Visit the birthplace and childhood home of Mohawk poetess E. Pauline Johnson and discover the important role Six Nations warriors played in the War of 1812-14 through the fascinating exhibit, “The Six Nations, John “Smoke” Johnson, and the War of 1812.”

Route 1812

The app includes a map, video, photos, music and audio to tell the stories of this important chapter in the building of the Canada.  Or plan ahead with the Route 1812 flip book as your guide. An Audio CD of the stories and other 1812 memorobilia can be purchased in our online shop.

A Desert Between Us & Them
Abandoned by the British, occupied and plundered by the Americans in the War of 1812, the people of Southwestern Ontario will spend several years living in a brutal war zone. This is their Story. View the program trailer and purchase the DVD and App here.
