The Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead (St. George, ON) and the Brant Historical Society (Brantford, ON) are partnering for a joint exhibit titled “Preserving our HERitage: History from the Womyn’s Perspective.”

The exhibit is about Women’s Institutes history, with focus on how WIs have recorded their own history. Both museums showcase the many accomplishments by WI groups which have existed for over one hundred years. Over the years WIs have recorded their own history in many ways including minute books, magazines, Tweedsmuir scrapbooks and other history books.

Both museums have a different story to tell about Women’s Institutes. The Brant Historical Society displays the history of the local WIs within Brant County. The Adelaide Hunter Hoodless Homestead, as the birthplace of WI co-founder Adelaide Hoodless and the office of the Federated Women’s Institutes of Canada, will display how the WIs started and how they developed into the large organization it is today.

Visit both locations and learn more about these groups of inspiring Canadian women. The exhibit is open from May 8 until June 30<2017. The Canada 150 Mosaic Mural Project commemorates Canada’s 150th Anniversary by bringing together 150 communities and thousands of participants to create community murals that visually reflect the history and culture of Canada. Once complete, the community murals will be virtually connected to form one gigantic mural mosaic with a railway theme that connects the country from coast to coast.

Our mural is composed of 750 tiles, each measuring four inches square and painted by Oakville residents. The official unveiling of Oakville's 150 Anniversary community mural took place on February 16, 2016 at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre (QEPCCC). Oakville’s community mural is now on exhibit at River Oaks Community Centre.

Drawn from the Permanent Collection of Canadian Ceramics, this exhibition traces the history of ceramics in Ontario over the last forty years. Starting with the refined functional ware of Ruth Gowdy McKinley and her effect on the program at Sheridan College and elsewhere, this exhibition will look at the development of the more sculptural approach by younger artists such as Reid Flock and Mary Philpott.

Repeatedly in his work, Canadian artist Kim Adams has explored the patterns of a mobile society, creating works of art… More >

Repeatedly in his work, Canadian artist Kim Adams has explored the patterns of a mobile society, creating works of art that are eccentric hybrids of the readymade. Blending humour, satire and seriousness, he builds “worlds” as a means of social critique. Adams’ installations exist comfortably in the space that divides life and art. His works have been presented in two very different social worlds: in a densely social environment such as a park or street and in a museum setting like the Art Gallery of Hamilton. Neither setting is privileged.A magnificent visual masterpiece, Bruegel-Bosch Bus consists of a 1960 Volkswagen that appears to pull a post-industrial universe displaying a cornucopia of fantastic and seductive worlds that play with our senses. It was produced over a 7-year span. This futuristic diorama is a permanent fixture in the AGH Sculpture Atrium overlooking the Irving Zucker Sculpture Garden, past Hamilton City Hall and the Niagara Escarpment. Reminiscent of a previous installation by Adams titled Earth Wagons that presented a micro-model North American society fixed on leisure and entertainment, the Breugel-Bosch Bus encapsulates the next whole world picture, a world in which reality and unreality, logic and fantasy, banality and sublimation of existence, form an inexplicable unity. This ‘bus’ is a Kubrickesque megalopolis made of icons symptomatic in present society and draws upon urban fantasies, phantasmagoric, post-apocalyptic landscapes, and a plethora of different times and cultures. Buildings from different epochs are aligned side by side and space becomes an imaginary territory where chaos prevails.
